The Fascinating Human Brain- Part 10: Dimentia and Retirement

Alzheimers and other types of dimentia have clear links to biology and genetics, and yet did you know that you can help delay the effects of functional brain loss?

A research study done over time of college professors who developed Alzheimer's showed that these people manifested their disease 10 years later than the rest of the population.

In other words, providing your brain with ongoing stimulation through continual learning can STAY the effects of brain degeneration! Of course this doesn't have to happen as a college professor. You can visit your local library; research something you've always wanted to know; attend a community class to teach you a new skill; develop of new hobby-- there are a thousand ways to keep your brain active!

This is why traditionally defined "retirement" can be a corrosive, debilitative thing to do to your brain. Dr. Matheson recommends the software programs by Posit science which he uses himself to promote the continual learning of his brain. Check out www.positscience.com.
